Minister-President Anke Rehlinger and Minister of the Interior Reinhold Jost officially handed this state-of-the-art building complex over to the Saarland police on Friday 21 February. SHS Strukturholding Saar was the developer, commissioned by the state to oversee the construction of the new Saarbrücken city police headquarters building on Saarbrücken’s Mainzer Straße, on a site already used by the police. The company was responsible for development of the entire project, from financing and planning through to project management and final handover for use.
Minister-President Anke Rehlinger: ‘With the new large police headquarters in Saarbrücken, we are providing a state-of-the-art working environment for our police officers, as well as sending a clear message that this is a future-oriented, well-equipped police force. This building highlights our approach of providing the security forces with an ideal setting so that they can perform their duties under the best possible conditions.’
New police HQ setting new standards
Minister of the Interior Reinhold Jost: ‘The new police headquarters offers more than just a new building: with it, we have set a milestone for security architecture within our state in general and its capital in particular! At more than 40 million euros, it is no coincidence that this project is the largest investment in Saarland’s history made in and for the police. In the future, this state-of-the-art property will provide our police officers with an exceptionally well equipped, attractive working environment that offers ideal conditions for performing their duties. Thanks to the outstanding commitment of all those involved, all challenges that sprang up during the process were successfully overcome, and we can now open this magnificent building together today. This deserves the greatest respect’, the Minister said in gratitude to all involved.
SHS’s CEO Valentin Holzer: ‘We are proud to have achieved such an extensive, important new construction project for the state and the police officers of Saarland. This building is state of the art in terms of its technology, energy use, and also the specific spatial requirements of the security authorities, and will be able to help support public safety for decades to come.’
Increase efficiency by pooling services
The new large police headquarters will combine Saarbrücken’s three previous St. Johann, Alt-Saarbrücken and Brebach police stations. This means that their staff, equipment and building logistics will now be housed at the same site. These services are also moving out of individual properties that are in major need of renovations due to their decrepit building structures.
About the building complex
There will be around 300 staff working in the new buildings. The new construction has around 5,100 m² of usable space in total, consisting of 197 rooms including 96 offices. There are also function rooms such as operational control tables, reporting offices and a state-of-the-art detention wing. There is a car park with around 370 car spaces, e-mobility charging stations, outdoor car parking spaces for visitors, and bicycle stands.
