The state commissioned SHS Strukturholding Saar, represented by their subsidiary LEG Service, to build the new Saarbrücken police headquarters on Saarbrücken’s Mainzer Straße, St. Johann district, on a site already used by the police. The contract also included construction of a public authority car park for emergency and service vehicles.
The new site is intended to house three departments, namely the Brebach, St. Johann/Karcherstraße and Alt-Saarbrücken police stations.
The Ministry of the Interior, Building and Sport’s site between Hellwigstraße and Halbergstraße, DFG Saarbrücken school, Mainzer Straße 134 and another part of Mainzer Straße was made available for construction and other use. The site is a total of around 22,000 m².
The state police department are using this new building as an office for some 300 staff. The new police headquarters contains 197 rooms, including 96 offices, various meeting and interrogation rooms, and special utility rooms such as operational control tables, where emergency calls and deployments can be coordinated. There is an adjoining delivery yard on the ground floor and a single-storey detention wing with ten cells.
The multi-storey car park can house a total of 373 cars. This is supplemented by 17 outdoor visitor parking spaces and various bicycle stands.
Preparing the entire ‘Ulanen-Kaserne district’ area:
The development measures required, i.e. the requisite new traffic management with matching infrastructure, were established in two construction phases, largely at the same time as the new police headquarters building.
Subject to the preliminary development work required, the building construction project began at the end of January 2021 with the earthworks and foundation works (bored piles).
