gwSaar conducted a trade mission to Italy from 4 to 7 November. The Saarland delegation’s programme featured numerous meetings, for example at investor events and visits to companies and trade fairs in the cities of Milan and Vicenza. The economic development team used the stay to present Saarland to interested Italian companies and research bodies as a location for investment and relocation.
The main focus and the motto of the events was Steps towards a sustainable industry. As an industrial state, Saarland is committed to the topic of sustainability. This is why the team also presented the land and property portal www.Portal.Germanys.Saarland when talking about the sustainable recycling of brownfield sites.
The trip is supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection as part of the GTAI (Germany Trade and Invest – Gesellschaft für Aussenwirtschaft und Standortmarketing mbH) programme designed to promote the internationalisation of regions undergoing structural change.
Saarland and Italy
This trade mission is the Saarland delegation’s response to the visit by Italian companies to Saarland in June 2023. The interaction between all stakeholders, particularly the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Germany ITKAM, gwSaar and GTAI, was as trusting and positive as always. Germany is Italy’s most important trade partner. In this regard, Lombardy, with its capital Milan, still accounts for almost a third of the total trade exchange.
The lively and varied exchange in trade, commerce, science, art and culture between Italy and the Saar region goes back many centuries and has left a lasting impression on the society and history of the state. Around 25,000 Saarlanders of Italian descent live in the Saar region.
