November 2024

Saarland involved in European Hydrogen Week in Brussels

From Monday, the Saarland Hydrogen Agency H2Saar will be attending European Hydrogen Week 2024 in Brussels to promote a cross-border approach and the development of hydrogen technologies in the region.

For the first time ever, H2Saar is participating in European Hydrogen Week (18-22/11) – one of the largest events for decision-makers and companies in the European hydrogen sector with conferences, exhibitions and networking opportunities for B2B.

H2Saar will be showcasing its hydrogen vision for our region through presentations and specialist forums, and will also be promoting these at a joint stand with ‘Grande Region Hydrogen’ (the interest group for the hydrogen industry in Lorraine, Luxembourg and Saarland) and the Saarland Representation to the EU. Focal points will include the cross-border distribution system ‘mosaHYc’ and cooperation opportunities in the production and use of hydrogen.

Bettina Hübschen, CEO of H2Saar: ‘Saarland’s position at the heart of Europe makes it a vital anchor and hub for hydrogen. At European Hydrogen Week, we will be able to exchange ideas with other leading market operators, boost our international network, drive innovation and help shape the future of sustainable energy supply. Ultimately, cross-border cooperation will also help boost Saarland’s ability to innovate and compete for the long-term and preserve industrial value creation in the state.’

The event will see plans being presented for developing a hydrogen economy in the border region: Saarland’s economy is currently transitioning towards decarbonisation, making large-scale use of hydrogen particularly important, especially in steel production: steel requires reliable infrastructure for its production and above all its delivery to customers, which would be achieved by setting up an integrated cross-border hydrogen system in Saarland, Luxembourg and Grand Est. This endeavour has a long-term objective.

More than 8000 visitors are expected in Brussels between 18 and 22 November, when European Hydrogen Week is being held for the fifth time. This event, organised by the EU Commission, Hydrogen Europe and representatives of the research community, is seeking to promote the use and development of hydrogen technologies in Europe. The relevant stakeholders will come together at panel discussions, presentations and stands in the exhibition area.
