Holzhauer KG acquires plot on former power plant site in Ensdorf

On 23 June, a purchase agreement was signed between Holzhauer KG and the Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation (gwSaar) to purchase space in the northern part of the former power plant site in Ensdorf.

The signature of this notarised purchase agreement by medium-sized enterprise Holzhauer KG and state-owned gwSaar marks the completion of the steps agreed by the two partners in a letter of intent in late 2025.

Holzhauer has acquired a plot of around 12 hectares in the northern part of the former power plant site in Ensdorf to enable the corporate group’s planned expansion. gwSaar will now being laying the groundwork for the site to be used, with the aim of delivering it to Holzhauer ready for construction in early 2028.

Holzhauer’s CEO André Tigges: ‘Our years of searching for a suitable plot have come to an end, laying the foundations for us to continue growing our company and also to expand our services for trade customers. Our cooperative partnership with gwSaar will enable us to establish a pioneering site, create and safeguard jobs, and set new standards for the supply of building services. As a wholesaler in a future-oriented market, we now have additional potential to provide sustainable building technology that is affordable and reliable in the long term – sourced from the region, for the region.’

Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke: ‘We will gradually transform the former power plant site in Ensdorf into an industrial park of the future that will create new jobs and open up long-term growth prospects for Saarland. Holzhauer represents another successful family company that has chosen Saarland to continue its growth – as Vetter Pharma, Viega, Fricke and Nobilia have also recently done. This shows that Saarland provides an attractive setting for investment and can successfully keep pace with other competing regions.’

gwSaar’s CEO Thomas Schuck: ‘The fact that a regionally rooted, family-run company like Holzhauer has opted for this new site highlights the industrial and commercial park’s future viability. It provides both medium-sized enterprises and large companies with a wealth of relocation opportunities to enhance their individual growth. We are looking forward to continuing to work closely with Holzhauer.’
