The Saarland Hydrogen Agency (H2Saar) is holding the first ‘Saarland Summer School’ from 5 to 11 July. Bearing the title ‘Decarbonisation of industry and energy supply through hydrogen – opportunities and risks of the green transformation’, this international education and networking format will focus on the future of green hydrogen and its role in decarbonising industry and energy systems.
Around 20 international students, researchers and specialists will be taking part in the ‘Summer School’ at H2Saar in Saarbrücken. The English-language format, comprising some 45 teaching units, will combine specialist expertise with intercultural and interdisciplinary knowledge-sharing. The ‘Summer School’ is being organised in conjunction with the European umbrella association Hydrogen Europe and is supported by the Saarland State Chancellery and Saarland University.
H2Saar CEO Dr. Bettina Hübschen: “The ‘Summer School’ offers international students, researchers and specialists an opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary discussion on hydrogen technologies with leading experts and see the green industry transition taking place in practice.”
Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Jürgen Barke: “Anyone wanting to shape the climate-neutral industry of the future needs intelligent minds and new ideas. Our Saarland Summer School is specifically promoting young talent from science and industry and creating a space for international exchange and networking. This will allow participants to see for themselves how Saarland is already driving hydrogen economy development and industrial transformation.”
The event will be attended by high-ranking representatives of the political, business and scientific worlds, including Jorgo Chatzimarkakis (CEO of Hydrogen Europe), Antoine Forcinal (CEO of Française De l’Energie) and Frank Gawantka (CEO of Creos Deutschland GmbH). The international research arena will be represented by figures such as Prof. Dr. Allan Niidu (TU Tallinn), Prof. Dr. David Rooney (Queen’s University Belfast) and Prof. Dr. Damien Guilbert (Uni Le Havre Normandie).
The programme also includes some exciting excursions, such as on Tuesday 7 July:
