Groundbreaking ceremony to expand the ‘Auf der Schwann’ industrial park in Freisen

On Monday 26 August, Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke broke ground on the project to expand the ‘Auf der Schwann’ industrial park, alongside mayor of Freisen Karl-Josef Scheer and LEG Kommunal’s CEO Valentin Holzer. The Minister had granted the municipality of Freisen initial financing of 1 million euros for the industrial park. These resources come from the state programme to improve the regional employment situation and economic structure.

Minister of Economic Affairs Barke: ‘Structural change in our region is progressing. To ensure that we remain competitive for the long term, we are continually working with municipalities to improve infrastructure for companies. By expanding the “Auf der Schwann” industrial park in Freisen, we are creating the ideal conditions to create more added value and new jobs in the region.’

Karl-Josef Scheer, mayor of Freisen: ‘By breaking ground today, we are paving the way for further positive development in this business location.’

‘I am delighted that LEG Kommunal are able to support the municipality of Freisen with this industrial park expansion project. We have previously collaborated with the municipality of Freisen on other phases of construction and are now able to contribute our experience and expertise to the work that is about to begin, for which our company will be taking charge of project management, fund management and health & safety coordination’, explained Valentin Holzer, CEO of Strukturholding Saar, of which LEG Kommunal is a subsidiary.

The development area is around 2.9 hectares in size. Various commercial sites will be created with a total of 1.9 hectares of usable space. This requires elements such as terrace and excavation work, roadworks, electricity, gas and water supplies, drainage work, and compensatory measures. Companies are already enquiring about the commercial sites.
