Economic promotion agencies want to find answers on how to meet future challenges

Annual meeting of the economic promotion agencies of the Federal States in Saarbrücken, this time hosted by gwSaar, Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation, and its Managing Director Thomas Schuck.  Among other things, the working group discussed about future questions business development in Germany willl have to tackle in the light of rapidly changing conditions for relocation investments. The proposed approaches are numerous, depending from the different prerequisites and location profiles of the Federal States. This makes a mutual exchange of experience even more important in order to respond to dramatically changing and increasingly unstable economic requirements and investment conditions worldwide and in order to intensify the search for partners.

As gwSaar´s Managing Director Thomas Schuck summarized, it has become evident that the solution chosen in Saarland years before to consolidate the state-owned corporations in charge of economic promotion and real estate under one umbrella was `no wrong approach`.

The advantage: Location marketing, investor support and project development all come from one single hand. This assures efficient ways throughout the entire implementation process of an investment.

The meeting took place at the Science Park Saar (SPS) on the university campus. Just as the CISPA Center for IT Security, which is also located on the campus, the Science Park Saar was developed by SHS Strukturholding Saar as a link between science and economy. To give the guests an insight into Saarland, there were also introductions to selected highlights as, for example, afore-mentioned CISPA. Professor Christian Rossow, a renowned scientist at the CISPA, presented the future Helmholtz Institute as a hub between research excellence and technology transfer. Furthermore, museum director Dr. Roland Möning guided the guests through the 4th Pavillon of the Moderne Galerie which was also successfully completed under the aegis of SHS.

The conference ended with the election of the new spokespersons. Up to now, the panel was headed by the long-term Managing Director of NRW Invest Petra Wassner. Her successor is Rainer Waldschmidt, Managing Director of Hessen Agentur.
