Festival opening with the film Die Räuber

The great Maximilian Schell plays his last role in the film Die Räuber. The film is a German-Luxembourg-Belgian co-production and is shown as a premiere in Saarbrücken. The film adaptation of Friedrich Schiller´s work of the same name was directed by Frank Hoffman and Pol Cruchten.

`This year, there will almost exclusively be shown premieres`, Bandel announced one and a half week before festival start. Of the 65 films in competition, 44 are shown for the very first time. 14 films are German premieres. According to Bandel, one central topic in the category Langfilm are helpless and weak parents unable to fulfil their role-model function.

Most important forum for the promotion of young, German-speaking film artists

Now, the renowned Saarbrücken film festival is about to open its doors again. For 36 years, the Max Ophüls Prize has been a forum to discover young talents from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. It can claim to be the only explicit film festival for young film makers in the German-speaking area.
The festival is supported by the SHS Strukturholding Saar which has also endowed the prize in the category Mittellanger Film.
