‘The heap is an inter-regional flagship for the destination of Reden. I am delighted that we have gained a new attraction with the redesign of the plateau. This also represents a contribution to further developing tourism in Saarland’, according to Chairman of the LEG Board and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke.
The developer of the heap plateau is the state’s own development firm (LEG Saar), a Strukturholding Saar (SHS) company. Bernd Therre, Managing Director of LEG Saar, explains: ‘The buildings and infrastructure are being constructed by LEG, which has many years of experience in executing complex projects in the tourism and leisure sectors.’ Ms. Gindorf Wagner, Managing Director of LEG Saar, is confident that two skilled leisure and event caterers have been found as leasing partners in Tom Schwarz and Guido Geiger.
The umbrella bar, the only one of its kind in Switzerland, has a diameter of 12 m and covers an area of around 80 m2. It can seat 80 to 100 people, with another 100 places available in the rustically designed beer garden.
Culinary offerings include the usual drinks, snacks, coffee and cake. Also on the menu (as you would expect for the Alps) are veal sausages, mustard and pretzels. The umbrella bar is now open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Firm plans have also been made for the Alpine hut, with an image of the building displayed on the newly erected building sign for all to see. Construction work will begin shortly. The structure of the building will reflect well-known Alpine models made of stone and wood. The building is 33 m long and 20 m wide, plus a terrace and outdoor balcony covering 300 m2 and seating 140. The Alpine hut will contain a total of around 775 m2 of usable space and will be able to seat 325 across four dining rooms and a gallery.
Important: the spaces are multifunctional, for example to house excursion traffic alongside events being held elsewhere at the same time. Particular features include the indoor gallery and a glass front with panoramic views of Reden as far as the Schaumberg mountain. Separate accessible sanitary facilities are planned at basement level for Alpine farming activities and public event spaces.
A full range of catering services above and beyond the offerings of the umbrella bar will vary with the seasons, including well-known specialties of Saarland and Alpine cuisine.
