One of Europe´s leading logistics specialists once again expands its site in the Saarland town of Überherrn. Two years after the last enlargement, Dachser now invests € 15 million in the extension of its logistics center. In Überherrn, Dachser inaugurates its second contract logistics warehouse and new office facilities. In doing so, the storage space for contract logistics grows to 62,000 square meters, offering room for 110,000 pallets. From its beginnings in Saarland, Dachser has been actively accompanied by gwSaar.
Dachser appreciates the special locational advantages and has already been operating a site on the industrial area Häsfeld near Überherrn since 2002. Oliver Wild, General Manager of the Saarland Logistics Center: `In the last few years, many companies have settled in Überherrn. This, on the one hand, due to the easy accessibility of the transportation network in the border triangle. On the other hand, conditions for the production, logistics and service industries are excellent here. Insofar, the location also offers ideal growth conditions for Dachser.` The existing logistics center had already been enlarged by a contract logistics warehouse of 11,000 sq.m. with about 22,000 pallet spaces in 2016. Only two years later, Dachser now scales up again with a 19,000 sq.m. high-rack warehouse with 35,000 pallet storage places and another 300 sq.m. of office space. The investment is roughly € 15 million.
Last Saturday, also the Federal Minister of Economics and Energy, Peter Altmaier, visited the company: `Thanks to an outstanding infrastructure, the high quality of logistics technology and a highly skilled workforce, the logistics location Germany takes a global top position. Logistics is a key industry in our country. It is the backbone of an economy based on the division of labour and is indispensable for an open economy like Germany. And Dachser plays a decisive role here.`
Also Anke Rehlinger, Saarland´s Minister of Economics, Labour, Energy and Transportation, visited the new facilities and stressed that `strong logistic partners are essential for a competitive business location. Especially Saarland with its central position within Europe and its high export rate needs a powerful logistics branch. Companies like Dachser that are continuously developping their service offerings are crucial partners for the local industry. The investment in the enlargement of the logistics center is a clear commitment to the location Saarland. For the future, I wish Dachser all the best and continued success!`
Thomas Schuck, CEO of gwSaar, Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation, added: We have actively supported Dachser since its very beginnings here in Saarland and I am very glad that the company´s development on the Häsfeld is so successful – with positive effects for the whole region.`
