Ford site in Saarlouis: Saarland reaches agreement with Ford and Vetter

The contracts for continued use of the Ford site in Röderberg, Saarlouis have been wrapped up. State company gwSaar (the Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation) and automotive manufacturer Ford signed the purchase agreement for this Saarlouis site on Friday 20 December. The acquisition costs of around 95 million euros were financed by the transformation fund for structural change in Saarland. At the same time, a contract was concluded between gwSaar and the pharmaceutical service provider Vetter (based in Ravensburg) for the step acquisition of space on Ford’s approximately 40-hectare former site. So as the first step, Vetter secured the as-yet undeveloped Ford areas and is making future plans to establish a new, additional pharmaceutical production site. Corresponding rental agreements have also been concluded between Ford and the Saarland Economic Promotion Corporation for the areas being used now and in the future.

Vetter’s acquisition of the land has now also created an opportunity to revitalise an abandoned site – for specialists, for a new sector, and thus for Saarland as a business location.
