Wohnungsgesellschaft Saarland (WOGE Saar) is renovating a former tax office building to achieve this. Renovation work is currently proceeding full speed ahead. The company invited guests to tour the construction site on Wednesday 21 January. State Secretary of Construction Torsten Lang was present as Chairman of the Board, as was WOGE\u2019s CEO Mirco Bertucci. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the visit, WOGE\u2019s Chairman of the Board Torsten Lang highlighted the importance of revitalising this building: \u2018The project is perfectly in line with the state\u2019s housing policy objectives. I am delighted that WOGE is also taking responsibility for implementing the objectives through projects like these and definitively helping to expand subsidised housing.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The residential and office complex here on Mainzerstra\u00dfe combines efficient building technology with social responsibility. It offers cleverly designed office spaces that ensure an attractive working environment, as well as accessible, high-quality, affordable living space. This means that once again, WOGE Saar has carried out its mission of creating suitable living space for all social groups\u2019, WOGE\u2019s CEO Bertucci emphasised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tour<br \/>\n<\/strong>The tour included explanations of the ground floor, where the three office units will be installed. From up on the sixth floor, attendees were able to take a look at the roof terrace, which was not yet accessible due to construction work but nevertheless offers an impressive panoramic view of the city. The apartment layout was outlined in person and via the plans displayed on the wall. This was repeated on the third floor, which currently houses the \u2018show floor\u2019 \u2013 providing a representative view of all the residential floors.<br \/>\nThere will be 49 apartments across five floors, covering a total of around 3,300 m<sup>2<\/sup>. 28 of these will be equipped to be accessible and\/or age-appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The building project<br \/>\n<\/strong>The building is being completely gutted, rebuilt inside, and comprehensively modernised. The majority of the outer shell will remain intact. A total of eight new balconies will be built on Lessingstra\u00dfe, plus twelve balconies overlooking the inner courtyard. In addition, the roof terrace on the sixth floor will be available for use after the renovation.<\/p>\n<p>The building, which has been empty since 2022, was acquired from the state by WOGE Saar in December 2024. Planning permission was granted in February 2025. 26 apartments are being subsidised by state and federal funds. Around 1,300 m<sup>2<\/sup> of living space is being publicly subsidised, meaning that WOGE is making nearly 40% of the floor space into socially affordable housing.
