"40 years Ford in Saarlouis": On Saturday, June 12th, the car manufacturer will be celebrating its anniversary.
The event will be officially opened by Saarland´s Prime Minister Peter Müller and Ford director Bernhard Mattes at 10:30 a.m.
In the halls, Ford-related companies will showcase themselves to the public. Also SBB will be present at the shell construction. After all, SBB is the operator of the Ford Industrial Supplier Park, which was planned and constructed by SBB at the end of the nineties: In 1998, the Park was launched. On a building area of 100,000 sq.m., suppliers, logistics firms and service companies involved into the Ford production process became established there. Every day, thousands of building components, modules and systems are delivered from the Industrial Park to the Ford assembly line - just-in-time and just-in-sequence. To ensure a smooth run, there are e.g. installed two suspension rails of 1000 m and 300 m length (conveyer belt) between the Park and the plant, thus assuring a cost-saving optimization of the Ford logistic processes. So, the Ford plant in Saarlouis could develop into one of the most successful production sites in the worldwide network of Ford. The project has set benchmarks worldwide and is, for its model function, a major flagship of the "car land Saarland".
The anniversary will be organized as a folk festival with children´s amusement, ballooning, pavilion, and beer garden. Ford is calculating with roughly 30,000 visitors. In the outside area, the pary will last until about 11:00 p.m.
